Can you help some of our stars of the future...?
Tributes pour in for former Magpies' striker Brian Triggs ...
TRIBUTES have been paid to former Ludgvan and Perranwell club stalwart Brian Triggs, who died last week following a short illness.
Brother of the late former Penzance goalkeeper Mel Triggs, Brian was a prolific goalscorer with Ludgvan’s all conquering West Penwith League side of the 1960s, and continued to score goals when they moved into senior football at Combination League level.
He also played for Penzance in the South Western League and in more recent years was a familiar face running the line for Ludgvan and more recently as secretary for Perranwell’s Combination League side.
Ludgvan secretary Sue Rowe said she had known Mr Triggs, who lived at Lower Quarter overlooking the club’s Fairfields ground, all her life and regularly exchanged banter with him.
“Brian will be greatly missed by everyone at Ludgvan,” she said. “We held a minute’s silence in his memory before the game last Saturday against Penryn, who were very respectful as everyone knew Brian.
“We had hoped he would be able to attend the previous Saturday’s home match against Perranwell, but sadly he didn’t live long enough to see it. However, in any case it had to be postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.”
The funeral service will be held at St Mary’s Church in Chapel Street, Penzance tomorrow (Friday) at 2pm, followed by interment and refreshments at Gulval Village Hall, where mourners will be able to park in the school car park at Gulval, if they so wish.
